Why does Cultivate exist?

I have been writing on and off for several years. This habit started primarily with technical articles on frontend engineering - in particular the React and Next.js ecosystem. Whilst I enjoyed the technical writing, and had some success with various articles, my enjoyment for this sort of writing style was never there. It was something I was doing because I thought it would be beneficial for my career, not because I loved doing it.

However, writing about my own experiences and challenges is something that is deeply rewarding, cathartic and enjoyable. I started writing a Substack specifically about my life as an engineering manager, but again I felt disappointed with the constraints of writing about one topic and one topic only.

Since this realisation, Cultivate has evolved into a more generalist publication about the balance of success and fulfilment. This is a constant inner battle I face myself. I took about work yes, but I also want to talk about my life outside of work. The things that are bringing me joy, or the struggles I am facing.

My hope is this transparency can help others on their life path, and hopefully pave a way to finding the delicate balance between success and fulfilment.
